Do you need help with your CDR? We have decided to make available our experience in writing our own CDRs (and our friend's) to YOU.

If you are of engineering background and your skills assessment requires you to submit a competency demonstration report to Engineer's Australia, and you don't know how to start. Perhaps you have started your preparation and may need someone with an experience to review your work and give recommendations on how to further improve it, then this might just be an opportunity for you.

Please check this blog regularly for service and service fee updates.Learn more about this service.

How to receive updates for a Competency Demonstration Report

If you have submitted your CDR through a courier company, then you will most likely have a tracking number.  Track your CDR after 5 days and it should be in Australia that time and will take another day or two to reach the Engineers Australia office.

Your CDR will officially be in Engineers Australia records once you receive an email (first and later an official receipt/letter through snail mail) with a contact ID.

As of this post, the lead time for (non-recognized) skills assessment outcome is 16 weeks.  It took my result the same amount of time to arrive.  However this may change, and to know, you can check the progress of Engineers Australia's assessment.  Using the email address you registered in your skills assessment application, send an email:

To: msastatus@engineersaustralia.org.au
Subject: status

...while you leave the body of the email blank.  In a few minutes, you will receive an automated reply and will show the submissions being assessed.

For more updates, stay tuned with me.

  1. Hi
Good day to you. I just sent an email, and it said that currently a case officer is assessing applications from June 28 2013. I submitted by application on August 30 2013. So would it be safe to say that I will receive my application in around 2 months?

    1. Hi Philip,

It really depends. The update from engineers australia does not provide information on how many applications they are processing as of date. The volume of application and their speed of assessment are two great factors, but as engineers we can usually project when our applications will be assessed.

    1. Hi Saugata,

Only Engineers Australia have the say. Usually it's a positive outcome as long as you have satisfied all that was asked. Relax.

Please let us know here once you have received your outcome letter from Engineers Australia.

  5. Hello Mr. JP,

I have just submitted my requirements for the skills assessment. I am quite confused bec. our documentation officer said that a CDR is not necessary (I am not complaining though since I don't really have any significant accomplishments to put in my CDR). I am just like you, a licensed Electronics Engr. I would like to know why you decided to submit a CDR? And I think the fee is also more expensive when you include your CDR in your application.

Thanks. I frequently check and read and reread your posts. :)

    1. Hello, you will only need to make and submit a CDR if wish to be assessed through engineers australia as a professional engr, eng technologist, or engineering manager. So, if your pathway is skilled migration and your skill is on the occupation list and engineers australia is the assessing body, then you will need one.

if I may ask, what sort of visa are you applying for? are you aiming for a skilled migration process? what is your occupation?

      cheers,
      JPZ

    2. Hi Sir JP, thanks for your feedback. I am applying for skilled migration. I am a Software Quality Engineer and this is the ANZSCO code 263211 (ICT Quality Assurance Engineer) I put when I submitted the requirements for Skills Assessment Application to the Australian Computer Society. I think we have the same agency as you did when you started your application and the documentation officer assigned to us said that I don't need to submit a CDR. and yes, the assessing body is engrs australia.

    3. I would like to correct what I wrote above. My assessing body is Australian Computer Society and not Engrs Australia. So i guess that is the reason why I don't need to submit a CDR?

    4. Hi Anon,

That is correct, ACS does not require a CDR. Only engineers australia.

    1. Hi Francis,

"When your application arrives, a receipt will be posted to you
within 5 to 7 working days. The receipt will specify your
Contact ID (CID) number. Please use this number in
      correspondence with Engineers Australia."

"If there are any deficiencies in your submission you will be
notified in writing. If the application is successful you will
receive an assessment outcome letter suitable for migration
purposes. Please note that the assessment outcome letter
has no expiry date from Engineers Australia’s perspective."

These are excerpts from engineers australia handbook.

However, since you have not received any, you might want to shoot them an email at Migration Skills Assessment , tell them your concern.

They should be able to respond within a day or two.

I hope this can help you with your matter of concern.

      Cheers,
      John

  7. Hello Mr. John,
I mailed my CDR application on Jan 20, 2014 and till now I have not received any reply from EA on assessment outcome letter suitable for migration purposes. Can you please update me on the time frame for assessment outcome letter, as its been 9 weeks as of now.

    1. Hi, engineers australia has a standard assessment outcome response of 19 weeks for un-accredited qualification and 8 weeks for the accredited. If you have an accredited qualification, then you might need to wait for another week for the letter to arrive by mail. This will also be dependent on where you are and how the mail can get to you.

I hope I have answered your question.

    5. Hello,

You should receive your CID within a few days after money has been debited from your nominated bank account.

Presently, Engineers Australia can provide an outcome letter after ~19 weeks after submission.

I hope I answered your query.

It already been 9-10 weeks and no fee is redeemed, i dont knw what i should do. My agent is asking me to wait for 19 weeks to get CID. How should i make it forward?

      Thanks,

    7. Hi,

If your credit card has not been debited the assessment fee, then engineers australia have not processed your application.

Engineers australia will send you a receipt within 5-7 working days upon receipt of your application. The receipt specifies the contact ID (CID) number (I.e. Reference Number)"

Ask your agent to track with the courier where your parcel is. It could be somewhere and not with engineers australia.

      Cheers,
      JP

I sent my application on 1st July 2013 via courier to EA.
I received my Contact ID no. on 21st Oct. 2103.
Still there is no update from EA regarding outcome. I have sent my documents through an agent. I am a mechanical engineer with 5.5 years exp.

My agent is telling me to wait for some time. But I think already a time of 19 weeks has crossed and am worried about that. Agent also says that your outcome is positive. Can u please suggest me something how to proceed, should I directly contact EA.

    1. Hi Preet,

If you submitted your assessment through your agent and that you nominated them to receive your outcome letter, then the letter will be sent to your agent.

Your agent should work with engineers australia by contacting them if an outcome has been decided upon and/or the letter has been sent to them from EA.

My question is, how did your agent know that your assessment outcome is positive?

      Cheers,
      JP

I don't how he came to know. But when I repeatedly followed up with him, then he replied me about positive assessment. But the thing is can EA take more than a time of 19 weeks also.

    3. Preet,

That is why, speak to your agent, ask them how they got to know the assessment outcome. And if it has been more than 19 weeks since your agent sent your application, and you have not received a CID, then most likely, i am assuming that EA did not receive your application.

    4. JP,

I received the CID but not the outcome. I received CID in oct 2013.

    5. ok, i must have mistakenly responded to this comment frrom the others.

if you received a CID, then EA have your application. If you have not received your outcome letter, then you can either wait for your agent to receive it, or contact EA straight away and ask them if they have sent you/your agent an outcome letter.

    6. Today I got an Information from my agent saying that.. EA has requested an extra fees of 20 $ more, as when your application was received, the fees was increased by 20 $. I received CID in Oct. 2013, I think at that time fees was 600 $. And I had sent them a dd of 600 S. So why are they asking more money.

Did you receive a CID from EA? what was the date on the receipt? Usually, it takes 2 weeks for the mail to get to your mailing address (may vary from where you are). You should have your assessment outcome by now.

Did you submit it yourself or through an agent?

      Can you double check?

    1. You have to pre-arrange a courier service, or include a prepaid courier envelope to have your mail sent back to you. if you have not made those arrangements, EA will snail mail it to you and during my time, was estimated to arrive in 12 days. May depend on your local post office as well.

  14. Hi JP !
This is my first here. Thanks to you for your tremendous job.

I'm a Mechanical Engineer with around 6yrs experience.
I submitted my CDR on 5th May 2014 and got the receipt mail on 16th May with CID.
I submitted my CDR without taking IELTS exam. Later I took IELTS exam and band score were:
    1st Time : S-6 , L- 6.6 ; R-5 , W-6 (7th June 2014 )
    2nd Time : S-6.5 , L- 6. ; R-6 , W-5.5 (6th September 2014 )

On 29th September I claimed against my writing score (2nd one) and I need to wait 6 to 8 weeks to get the result.

One of my friend told me that since in two exam I scored 6 (min) in each band so I should send both IELTS result. Because it is acceptable by Engineers Australia.

At this moment I'm really confused that what should I do ?
On the other hand its already 19 weeks over and Engineers Australia did not respond about any deficiency yet.

    1. As far as I know, you can only send one IELTS test result with the passband that EA requires. I am not sure if you can submit both. But to be sure, do good with your IELTS to get a good passmark in just one test result.

      JP

    3. Hello Guys,

I have a similar issue but I got
      1st Time : S-6.5 , L- 5.0 ; R-6.5 , W-6
      2nd Time : S-7 , L- 7.5. ; R-8 , W-5.5

I had paid for the remarking and I received a letter from IELTS that my results are maintain unchanged.

My doubt, Engineer Australia accept two IELTS TRF in order to probe our English level is enough to work as Engineer in Australia?

      Delete
    4. I'd rather not try that as EA did not explicitly mention you can submit more than one IELTS TRF. To be safe, submit one TRF with the required scores in each band.

      cheers,
      JP

      Delete
    5. I can ensure that EA accept more than one IELTS result, if you are able to score minimum 6 in each band (combine) .
Few months ago I sent my two IETS TRF and EA accepted it.
